Book Celling for the People

I just got word that I'll be performing this month with the Kates. This will be my 3rd performance with them, and I'm very excited. It will probably be a typical Shannon Rose story - maybe about bull riding or maybe about dating. Only time will tell.

It's been 5 years since I first started working at the Book Cellar. And a fun 5 years it has been. I love talking about books and wine with my community. Luckily, the store also attracts a good staff who are a very warm and creative folk. (Except one - my nemesis. You know who you are.) But that's another story for another time. For someone who works so hard during the day, it's nice to come to a place where I can remember that work is not my life. It's my fun job.

There's always something going on here, which is good for me. Most authors from our reading like to say that we are an author's book store. I think that's because we have writers on staff and we also sell beer. Last week, we hosted what was later to be referred to as "Dudefest." I'm learning that a lot of authors are dudes... and these dudes like to drink beer and Bourbon. There are also a good number of witty wine-drinking female authors nearby. The two groups mix well, usually.

We also host a slew of book clubs, including our store's own book club which meets the first Wednesday of the month. Tonight, the Sierra Club Book Club is meeting in our cafe. It brings in not only the environmentally conscious, but also occasionally some kooky conspiracy theorists. I find it refreshing to know these friends are nearby. There are also reading series throughout the month and the spectacular all-female stand-up comedy troupe , The Kates! It's a good time.

The Sierra club book club has started wrapping things up, so I should probably sign off for now.

Remember, dear readers - Books makes you smart. Wine keeps you sane.
